What it is
STACCA, in Italian, means "to detach", and among skiers and forecasters is used for "triggering an avalanche". The STACCA tool turns a physics numerical engine into a tool a mountain professional can use from a phone. The user picks a slope on the map, sets a slab thickness, taps run, and sees the modelled runout footprint and 3D particle flow in a few seconds.
STACCA currently covers the Italian Alps, and is being developed in collaboration with the italian regional avalanche services. The goal is to develop a tool that is integrated into practicioners workflow, available across the mountain regions of the globe.
